I had been actively serving and helping the people around Springfield, but God had been tugging at my heart to step out and do more for Him. Well, it wasn’t long before God opened a door and got me so excited about something I had never thought of before. This became my first trip to Nicaragua. It only took one trip to change my heart and light it on fire for a passion to help God’s people of Nicaragua. These people are so down to earth, loving, and grateful you can’t wait to go back.

When you open your heart to let God do His work it is so exciting to see what He can do. It is amazing how you can dig all day next to someone you can’t hardly talk to (my Spanish is in need), but yet you develop a special kind of relationship with him or her—it definitely is a God thing. It is a passion that you can not explain to everyone; it is an experience of the heart. We are called to serve those in need, yet you come home filling like you were the one on the receiving end. God opened my heart in a new way, and I grow so much on every trip. This passion just makes you hungry for more of what God has in store.

In John chapter 15:5 Jesus says, “He is the vine, we are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in Him, bears much fruit; for without Him we can do nothing. He goes on in verse 12 to command us, that we love one another as He loves us. Whether it is digging ditches, or laying block, nailing zinc on a roof, or building relationship with people, I just want to leave myself open to what God has in store for me.
